2018 bathroom trends - from Nordic to coolness and vintage: stylish design is in demand

9/18/2017

Urban coolness

Black, metal and concrete for the coolest of looks. Key features from the world of architecture are increasingly finding their way into the domestic living environment. Characterised by clear, strong lines, sharp edges and complete avoidance of embellishments, the urban coolness interior trend is all about puristic minimalism in its most pared-down form. This style is also ringing the changes in the bathroom, with black and white replacing bright colours, single shades instead of patterns, stainless steel rather than brass and raw concrete in place of warm plaster. Less is more, with understated looks attracting attention.

The on-trend colour of black, in both gloss and matt finishes, is even inspiring new ef-fects for washbasins and baths. Artis washbasins and freestanding baths look particularly cool in rich Coal Black. A Black Matt Lacquer finish gives the mainstream bathroom furniture collections a trendy minimalist feel, while metallic details such as chrome handles for the Venticello range complete the puristic effect. The Memento 2.0 design washbasin has also captured the latest trend with a new “Concrete” beton finish, confidently and strikingly proclaiming its urban character.

Modern vintage

Retro and vintage styles are still key trends, enhanced in some cases with a modern note. Familiar items are being rediscovered and revealed in new interpretations, inspired by style influences, but avoiding direct replication. And noone wants to sacrifice modern technology and contemporary comforts, especially in the bathroom. Quite the re-verse, functionality is taken for granted, exclusive luxury is a must.

The freestanding Squaro Prestige Quaryl® bath meets both of these challenges with stylish aplomb. Selected real wood veneers are applied by hand to the high-quality bath - making each item a one-off. Hommage too is inspired by days gone by and impresses with a combination of real wood and high-quality marble. Not forgetting the most recent arrival among the premium collections, Antheus, which combines fine materials, balanced proportions and geometric Art Deco-style contours with the puristic clarity of Bauhaus design in an enduringly beautiful bathroom series.

Scandi style

Scandinavia's appeal is as strong as ever. All over the world, the Nordic lifestyle stands for friendliness, authenticity and an affinity with nature. And nature is also an inspiration in interior design, with lots of wood, understated shapes, clear lines and soft colours reflecting the typical Nordic lifestyle and inviting a feeling of well-being into the bathroom.

Villeroy & Boch's Artis surface-mounted washbasins are a perfect example. The innova-tive TitanCeram material allows exceptionally thin walls and creates a very pure and delicate effect. Soft pastel shades, designed exclusively for Villeroy & Boch by the German-Danish designer Gesa Hansen, add a gentle splash of colour at the washbasin. Narrow rims and contoured outlines are also the defining features of the Venticello and Finion collections. Natural wood finishes create an integrated effect for bathroom furniture, in shades of Santana Oak, Oak Graphite and Elm Impresso. Not forgetting the on-trend colour of White Wood, a bright white with a fine wood grain effect.

Greenery

Conjuring up images of fresh leaves and new shoots, greenery, the Pantone colour of 2017, is a fresh, yellow-green shade representing nature in spring. This life-affirming colour is brimming with vitality and passion. Greenery also stands for diversity, having already permeated every area of the fashion, architecture and design worlds. Its influence is also apparent in the bathroom. For example, Artis washbasins in the three green shades from Gesa Hansen's seasonally inspired colour concept. Or you can literally bathe in vitality: thanks to Colour on Demand, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing your favourite shade of green for many freestanding Villeroy & Boch baths.

Stylish design

Whatever the trend and whether in black, pastel shades or trendy green - above all, to-day's customer is looking for stylish design in the bathroom. And this is precisely where Villeroy & Boch comes in. With outstanding designs, some developed in cooperation with famous designers, a focus on linear shapes and individual looks.
